[Faith & Hunger] Hunger Action: Call Comm Hansell to speed up expedited food stamps

Urge OTDA Commissioner Hansell to Go Back  to Issuing Expedited Food Stamps 
within 24 Hours after  Application 
One of Hunger  Action’s first victories more than two decades ago was to 
convince the State  Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) to 
require local districts  to provide expedited food stamps by the next business day 
after application,  rather than waiting the current five days after 
application. This unfortunately  was dropped under Governor Pataki. We are asking 
Governor Spitzer to go back to  the old rule. Food stamps are one of the most 
effective anti-hunger programs. If  you qualify for food stamps, and your rent and 
utility bills are more than your  income and cash on hand, you are supposed to 
get expedited food  stamps. 
Please call OTDA  Commissioner David Hansell at (518) 474-4152 and say: “
Please help end  hunger by requiring expedited food stamps by the day after  
application.”
