Just wanted everyone to know that we are doing a lobby day on single payer
issues at the State Capitol on May 6th.

The Capital District Alliance for Universal Health Care is taking the lead
on organizing a noon time rally.

I would suggest a briefing from 10 to 11 (Emmanual Baptist Church, 275 State
St.), with meetings from 11 to 3:30 or so, with time out at noon for a rally
and lunch.

We would lobby on the Assembly single payer health care resolution in
support of HR 676, as well in support of the state single payer legislation (though
unlikely to move anywhere this session).

We should also take the time to explain to legislators why single payer is
so good and that we hope that they take seriously the universal health care
studies being done. Every other state has concluded that single payer does the
best job and then they decide to do something else that doesn't work.

We could also lobby on a few related issues such as insurance companies.

I would suggest that we meet with Silver and Bruno's office (Caron Crummey),
Governor Paterson (presumably Denis Whalen or Joe Baker), Troy Oeschner of
the Insurance Department, Sen. Hannon (chair of Senate Health Committee), As.
Richard Gottfried (Chair of Assembly Health Committee and sponsor of the
single payer bill), Sen. Eric Schneiderman (sponsor of the Senate single payer
bill), Sen. Sampson (minority lead on Senate Health), Sen. Seward (chair of
senate insurance co.), As. Denny Farrell (chair of ways and means), As. Morelle
(chair of As. Insurance Committee), As. Ron Canestrari (As. Majority Leader)

Depending upon how many people come to lobby, we could also lobby other
members of the Health Committees and your own individual legislators.

Please let me know (_dunleamark at aol.dun_ (mailto:dunleamark at aol.com) , 518
434-7371 xt 1#) whether you plan to attend and who you state legislators are.

Also let me know if you would like to help set up the legislative visits.

Thanks
