04/29/2020
The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) was appropriated supplemental funds under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act in FY 2020 in the amount of $200 million. Besides the CARES funding to respond to the COVID-19 impact on communities, the program was appropriated $120 million in FY 2019 and $125 million in FY 2020 annual appropriations. The total of these three appropriations awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the National Board for the EFSP is $445 million.

The National Board will allocate all the funding to qualifying jurisdictions (counties and cities) in Calendar Year 2020. Phase 37 (FY 2019 annual funding) and Phase CARES (FY 2020 COVID-19 supplemental funds) jurisdictional allocations are scheduled to be announced on Friday, May 1, 2020. Both these phases will be administered concurrently. Jurisdictional allocations for Phase 38 (FY 2020 annual funding) will be announced at a date to be determined.

The National Board will provide updated guidance and other supportive materials when jurisdictional funding allocations are announced. In the interim, the National Board is sending this notice to 1) advise of the funding opportunities; 2) share the key program dates regarding the funding; and 3) advise Local Boards and agencies interested in applying for funds of the importance of obtaining a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) as soon […]

National Day of Action!

04/23/2020

Call Today ! Action Alert !

Join us on this National Day of Action to urge Congress to include the following in the next federal relief bill:
Increase SNAP benefits by 15% — this represents a 20-cent increase from $1.34 per meal to $1.54 per meal
Raise the minimum monthly SNAP benefit from the current level of $16 to $30
Suspend the Trump Administration’s administrative rules to limit SNAP eligibility
Hunger Free America is working hard to lobby elected officials to increase funding in the next relief bill so that food insecure Americans get the resources they need. But we can’t do it alone. The government needs to know that millions of us support increasing SNAP benefits to assist vulnerable families and individuals who are struggling during this time.

We’re asking all of our supporters to contact your members of Congress TODAY to tell them that #SNAPMatters.

National Day of Action on Wednesday, April 22 to Boost SNAP Benefits in Next COVID-19 Package

04/20/2020
On Wednesday, April 22, join the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), Feeding America, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), Center for American Progress (CAP), and other national allies and advocates across the country in a National Day of Action urging Congress and the Administration to enact SNAP benefit boosts in the next COVID-19 relief package. Recent reports indicate that the next package would include assistance for businesses and healthcare efforts, but not SNAP — we must insist that individuals and families need immediate relief, too.

Please share with your networks.

Contact your Senators and Representatives (call, email, tag on social media) and urge them to include SNAP in the next COVID-19 package. Include the White House in your Tweets and outreach.

The next COVID-19 relief bill must include the following SNAP priorities:

1. boost SNAP maximum benefits by 15 percent;
2. increase the minimum SNAP benefit from $16 to $30; and
3. suspend all SNAP administrative rules that would terminate or cut benefits.

These temporary provisions must continue until the economy improves. The provisions will not only help households put food on the table during this crisis, but will also help to stimulate the economy.

Check out FRAC’s COVID-19 Updates page for more resources on the Day of Action, which will be added leading up to Wednesday.

Get vocal on social: Join FRAC, Feeding America, CBPP, and CAP for a Twitterstorm this Wednesday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. EDT as part […]
