EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MARK QUANDT, TO RETIRE IN FALL 2021

03/17/2021
We thank Mark Quandt for his partnership and tireless dedication in addressing the needs of those struggling with food insecurity and poverty.
From all of us at Hunger Action, we wish Mark well!

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MARK QUANDT, TO RETIRE IN FALL 2021

After a remarkable 38-year career at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Executive Director Mark Quandt is retiring.
Mark began his career in 1983 as a Warehouse Manager when the Food Bank was serving just 60 agencies in 8 counties distributing approximately 400,000 pounds of food. Quandt was promoted to Executive Director in 1984 and today, through his leadership, the Regional Food Bank serves nearly 1,000 agencies in 23 counties distributing over 55 million pounds of food annually.
Under Mark’s leadership, many innovative programs were developed to expand the reach of the Food Bank to underserved communities with specific emphasis on providing services to children and seniors. He used creative approaches to connect available food sources to the Food Bank communities including operating a farm to provide fresh produce, building relationships with food manufacturers and wholesalers, and organizing hundreds of retail grocery stores to donate food that would otherwise go to waste. He has worked tirelessly to broaden partnerships, increase awareness and continually communicate the need to alleviate hunger in our communities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mark not only succeeded in serving individual and community needs, but he has been instrumental in developing […]

U.S. citizen children of undocumented parents are eligible for stimulus payments

03/15/2021
Finally, economic relief is headed to New York’s families. For the first time, all U.S. citizen children of undocumented parents are eligible for stimulus payments, along with some mixed-status families, delivering much-needed relief to thousands of immigrant households across the state.

We worked hard, alongside our national and local partners, to ensure the American Rescue Plan Act expanded eligibility for stimulus payments to our immigrant community members, including the children of undocumented parents.

And thanks to the efforts of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who worked in lockstep with us, the package also offers a lifeline of nearly $100 billion to help New York survive and recover—including over $165.9 billion for education, $30 billion for small businesses, and $4 billion for vaccines and treatment. This relief package will help lift 4.5 million children out of poverty, including 22,000 New Yorkers.

Real economic relief is on the way for many New York families—and that’s worth celebrating. But we still have more work to do to ensure that every New Yorker, regardless of immigration status, has access to the relief they need to weather this crisis.

The economic devastation of the pandemic has and will continue to disproportionately burden immigrant communities, and without a plan that includes everyone—regardless of status—New York cannot have a full recovery.

Join Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the NYIC on March 17th (details to come) for a members-only conversation about the American Rescue […]
