When I started working for the State – I met with many agency heads. When meeting with State Office for the Aging- I was told about all the commercial kitchens the State has under contract and the desire for them to be used to help with the Governor’s Anti- Hunger work. As Ex Director of Hunger Action, we worked on the NYS Food Waste Recovery Bill, that directs good eatable food waste to emergency feeding programs. The rest would go to an anaerobic digestor that would turn the food waste into compost, keeping it out of the landfills. This landmark legislation fights food insecurity and protects the environment.
