While research on the role of diet on brain health continues to evolve, scientific evidence suggests that including walnuts as part of a balanced diet may help maintain and improve cognition for individuals across the lifespan. There is also emerging research that suggests certain nutrients, eating patterns and individual foods, such as walnuts, may play a supporting role in mental well-being.

Join us for our latest installment of Eat the Science where Kristy and Jackie will share the latest research on how regular walnut consumption may help support brain health, cognition and mental well-being. They will also be demonstrating two unique walnut recipes in time for National Walnut Day on May 17 and Brain Health Awareness Month in June.

Register today to join the free workshop on May 1st and receive 1 FREE CPEU for Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered pending approval by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

This workshop series is sponsored by the California Walnut Commission.

Registration for this free event is now open! Click the link below to reserve your spot and be sure to register by April 30th! The workshop will be recorded and available for any [โ€ฆ]

From Farm to Food Bank

New York Stateโ€™s Nourish New York program is a lifeline for families and farmers.

For those who are food insecure, this critical program provides access to the nourishment they need while establishing a market for farmers to sell their products. The funding provided allows New Yorkโ€™s emergency food providers, like the Regional Food Bank, to purchase surplus products from New York farmers and dairy manufacturers and deliver it to the communities we serve.

The numbers are shocking โ€” 1 in 4 New Yorkers is considered food insecure. Unfortunately, the demand for healthy food has only been increasing in recent years, but the funding provided has remained flat.

The Regional Food Bank supports the New York Senate and Assembly one-house budget resolutions that would allocate additional money for the Nourish New York program in the FY 2025-25 State Budget. We urge Governor Kathy Hochul to approve this funding as we work to alleviate hunger, prevent food waste and provide nourishment to every single New Yorker.

The ability to provide an assortment of New York-produced nutritious produce, eggs, dairy, and more means [โ€ฆ]

Since the Citywide Program wrapped last November, weโ€™ve been hard at work re-imagining whatโ€™s possible for the next iteration of our cohort-centered programming. With faculty input, and with years of student feedback to reflect on, weโ€™re thinking through whatโ€™s needed to create an updated program that speaks to the current needs and interests of our community.

During this re-visioning pause, the first of its kind since FSNYCโ€™s 2010 launch, weโ€™re guided by questions like, โ€œHow has the urban agriculture field changed in the past decade? How do we ensure that we are preparing students to build a just food system? What content must be prioritized in the time we have together?โ€

Weโ€™re grateful for the excitement and questions and look forward to sharing updates as they emerge. For now, please register for our 2024 public offerings and continue staying up-to-date via our socials and newsletter.
