As we know, more than 1 in 10 people in the US experience food insecurity every year. At the same time, 1 in 3 US households grows some amount of food at home. Fresh Food Connect links these two through a mobile app that streamlines communication between you and your local home and community gardeners. ย  The process is simple: gardeners download the free app and indicate when they have extra produce. From there, local nonprofit operators can choose to receive drop-offs or pick up the donations directly from gardenersโ€™ homes for redistribution to the communities they work with. ย  In 2021, we connected over 1,800 community gardeners to 65 hunger relief/food access organizations, engaging communities to share over 67,000 lbs of locally grown produce. White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health WATCH PARTY

University at Albany Downtown Campus Milne Hall Room 001 135 Western Ave, Albany, NY, United States

Please join us and our coalition partners at the WH conference WATCH PARTY in Albany on September 28. Registration isย  capped at 140, so register now! The goal: End hunger and increase healthy eating and physical activity by 2030, so that fewer Americans experience diet-related diseases like diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. Millions of Americans are afflicted with food insecurity and diet-related diseases โ€” including heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes โ€” which are some of the leading causes of death and disability in the U.S. The toll of hunger and these diseases is not distributed equally, disproportionately impacting underserved communities, including communities of color, people living in rural areas, people who are differently-abled, older adults, LGBTQI+ people, military families, and military veterans. Lack of access to healthy, safe, and affordable food, and to safe outdoor spaces, contributes to hunger, diet-related diseases, and health disparities. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these challenges further. We cannot wait to act. And we arenโ€™t. The Biden-Harris Administration will host the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health on September 28, 2022. In parallel to the conference, they will be announcing a National Strategy that identifies steps the government will take and catalyzes the public and private sectors to address the intersections between food, hunger, nutrition, and health. The five pillars described below define the scope of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and [...]
