Rashida is the Hunger Action Network’s intern for the 2016-2017 bringing her passion for social justice. As a child, Rashida’s mother brought her to HANNYS rallies and lobby days to stop cuts to the New York State welfare grant, these experiences made a lasting impression her. She believes that hunger and poverty are interconnected and that changes in public policy are the key to reducing social and economic disenfranchisement. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy with a concentration in Nonprofit Management.  She received Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and History from Marist College, and holds a Master’s degree in Africana Studies SUNY Albany. Her research includes: food insecurity in low-income neighborhoods, the effects of gentrification on the poor, homelessness and source of income discrimination. Rashida is especially committed to anti-poverty policies that specifically address the needs of low-income women and communities of color.
