𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗱 Farm School NYC 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆?
While reflecting on how far Farm School NYC has come since 2007, we spoke with a few of our founders. Here is what Owen had to say about one of the initial intentions behind Farm School:
Having OG community gardeners at the initial and ongoing visioning and planning meetings was key to the creation of Farm School. Urban agriculture was becoming a trendy idea and there were a lot of young folks jumping on board. Founders saw that there were so many people who sustained community gardens for so long being steamrolled out of the movement. They wanted to honor and center those folks.
Owen is still in touch with and collaborates with students from many cohorts including those from the first-ever cohort. Some students help him where he now leads Truelove Seeds.
Farm School NYC can continue sowing the seeds of social transformation that founders like Owen planted with your contributions. We are able to advance our mission with the assistance of regular donations. Help us honor the wisdom of urban land stewards and continue to involve elders in our intentionally intergenerational community.
