Citywide Program applications are now open! Farm School has been gearing up for this application process all summer. The Citywide Program is a 12-month urban agriculture education program rooted in food justice and social justice. This program centers BIPOC land traditions and community building across New York City on Lenape land. We are grateful to continue to offer this program as a part of our gift economy. Before applying, be sure to take a look at our updated program guide or join one of our zoom info sessions on September 1st and September 19th. Learn more about the application process here!

For the first in-person Irrigation session, students visited Bissel Gardens and practiced their observation skills, thinking through the challenges of accessing water and setting up a working drip irrigation system. During the second session on land, students successfully constructed and installed an irrigation system together at both Red Hook Farms and the Brooklyn Grange!
During the final class, students shared group presentations exploring the politics and history of water as well as how to apply skills they’ve learned including water pressure, budgets to build systems, different layout options, and finding ways to use community resources. Citywide students are now in Crop Management, where they will explore the best practices for maintaining crops in NYCโs climate. Stay tuned for updates next month!

Farm School NYC works in communities that bear the brunt of environmental racism. By improving the environment in these communities, there is an evident improvement in quality of life. We are working with IOBY through their 2022 NYC Environmental Justice & Sustainability Match Program to raise funds.
Funds raised will support purchasing supplies for the construction of two high tunnels, one located in the Bronx and the other in Brooklyn. The funds raised help purchase the supplies for these builds. Donations are matched up to $5,000 and each donation is doubled by IOBY!
Please share this fundraiser, and consider donating today.

Join Deep Routes creator, FSNYC faculty, and multi-talented chef Maya in the kitchen/garden. On September 15th from 5:30 pm – 8 pm workshop participants will delve into the preparation and history of plants that play a significant role in Southern U.S. cuisine: Greens, Okra, Rice, and Sugar.
Alongside discussion of the agricultural and culinary technologies of these plants, participants will prepare a meal to develop a deeper understanding of our relationship to these foods and uplift the culinary legacy of Southern chefs and farmers.
