Why: This is a continuation of Hunger Action Network NYS’s 30-year tradition of calling for the Governor and The Legislature to take action on hunger. In January the Governor releases her Executive Budget.

Our convening is to call on the governor and the state legislature to take action in supporting frontline community food providers in the FY 2025 budget process.

The Ask: We are asking for the NYS Budget to increase funding for food procurement programs:

  • Fund Hunger Prevention Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) at $75 Million.
  • Fund Nourish NY at $75 Million.
  • Directly contract with BOTH food banks AND food pantries/providers through the RFP process for the above program

What to To Bring:

  • Signs to carry as we march
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Warm clothes (it will be cold)

Some ideas for sign slogans:

  • “Hunger Free New York”
  • “End Hunger Now”
  • “Fund HPNAP $75 Million”
  • “Fund Nourish NY $75 Million”
