HPNAP provides supplemental funding and nutrition technical assistance to a network of emergency food programs (EFPs), consisting of food banks, soup kitchens, food pantries and
other non-profit organizations. HPNAP and other government support provide funds for operating costs and for nutritious foods that may not be donated by other sources.

2023 Farm Bill Listening Sessions | OTDA (ny.gov)

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) is pleased to announce a series of listening sessions on the 2023 Farm Bill. These sessions will complement a series of roundtable discussions held in 2022 by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets and permit OTDA to gain additional perspectives regarding the Farm Billโ€™s Nutrition Title.

Sessions will be available in NYC, Albany, Buffalo and Virtual The Farm Bill is the primary federal legislation that governs the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as well as an array of agricultural and food programs. The Farm Bill is scheduled to be reauthorized by Congress in 2023.

OTDA is seeking input from a variety of stakeholders and community members as New York finalizes its priorities for consideration in this Farm Bill reauthorization. OTDA is interested in hearing from speakers on key areas impacted by the Farm Bill including SNAP eligibility, benefit calculations, employment and training programs, SNAP outreach and nutrition education, and EBT card usage and security. Anyone interested in federal SNAP policies is encouraged to provide testimony.

The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York

Formed out of a partnership between The Food Pantries for the Capital District NYS Community Food Assistance Network (CFAN) and the Hunger Action Network of New York State, The Alliance is a collaborative effort of community-based food assistance providers and stakeholders to reduce food insecurity in New York State. The Alliance convenes stakeholders, coordinates collective impact activities, provides a forum for information sharing, and is a network to increase capacity and nutritious food supply to direct food assistance equitably and efficiently to our communities. We are a voice for community-based food assistance providers and our community members experiencing food insecurity.

In a recent survey of our Capital Region coalition of food pantries:
โ€ข 83% reported increases in service levels
โ€ข 45% reported not feeling that they have adequate funding to provide services to their community
โ€ข 48% reported not feeling that their current funding will last throughout the year
โ€ข And 50% reported that they are not adequately able to source the products (food) that they need

More stats:
โ€ข Gas expenses have doubled for The Food Pantries food distribution โ€“ from $13,000 in 2021 to over $26,000 YTD October 2022
โ€ข Amount of pounds of food/other products delivered to individual food pantries up 15% YTD
โ€ข TFP Food Access Referral Team has already made more than 7,391 referrals for pantry service this year โ€“ 19% increase
โ€ข Baby formula distribution up 80% [โ€ฆ]
