DEC Funding for Local Emergency Food Relief Equipment!

๐™Š๐™ง๐™œ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™˜ ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง๐™ž๐™–๐™ก๐™จ ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™–๐™œ๐™š๐™ข๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ
The goal of this funding program from the Department of Environmental Conservation is to assist 501(c)(3) not-for-profits that provide emergency food relief in New York State. Approximately $500,000 is available for Local Emergency Food Relief Equipment Grants.

Eligible Applicants:
501(c)(3) not-for-profit (NFP) corporations that provide emergency food relief in New York State, excluding New York State Food Banks, are considered eligible applicants. Note: New York State Food Banks are not eligible.

Eligible Equipment:
The following types of equipment that assist local emergency food relief organizations in providing food to those in need are eligible for funding under this grant program:

Our Food Justice course with Farmer Yon wrapped last month with a visit to the Magnolia Tree Earth Center and Hattie Carthan Community Garden, where students shared stories and analyzed the impacts of community food organizing in the neighborhood. Huddling around the fire and petting chickens, it was the studentsโ€™ first time together in-person since Orientation last fall.

In her State of the State Address on January 10, Governor Kathy Hochul announced several major proposals that will provide an economic boost to farmers and strengthen New Yorkโ€™s food supply chain. The Governor unveiled plans to bolster demand for New York State foods and dramatically increase the purchasing of local farm products, encourage investments to modernize New Yorkโ€™s farms, and more. The Schenectady Foundation now accepting 2023 scholarship applications

The Schenectady Foundation will award scholarships in three different programs this spring to residents of Schenectady County. We intend to award $39,000 in scholarships this year.

Our scholarship programs are:

โ€ข Schenectady STEM scholarships โ€“ for graduating seniors of Schenectady High School intending to pursue a degree in a STEM field.
โ€ข Anna Hudson Erbacher scholarships โ€” for graduating seniors of schools in Schenectady County that will pursue degrees preparing them to become educators.
โ€ข Dave Goyette Memorial Vocational scholarships โ€” to promote entry or advancement in vocational fields by learning skilled trades.

St. Andrewโ€™s Church in Albany (note location change)

The Annual Assembly of CACC member churches will meet on February 9. Clergy and laity are encouraged to attend this event. The meeting at St. Andrewโ€™s Church, 10 North Main Ave., in Albany will include a short business session followed by a program discussing food insecurity and how CACC churches can address the challenges

There will be a social time from 6 to 6:30 pm. The business portion will start at 6:30 and the program at 7.

No Kid Hungry New York School Nutrition Funding Opportunity

Hunger Solutions New York and No Kid Hungry have announced an exciting new grant for school districts: the No Kid Hungry New York School Nutrition Opportunity!

About the Grant:
This grant from No Kid Hungry New York will provide funding to school districts to maximize child nutrition programs and ensure children and families have access to healthy meals at school during the school year. School districts play an essential role in ensuring students receive nutritious meals to learn, grow, and thrive to reach their full potential. These flexible grants will allow school districts to respond to growing needs and emerging opportunities to provide meals and resources to [โ€ฆ]

Students are halfway through the Training of Trainers course, led by Ravi Ramaswamy and Maya Stansberry, familiarizing themselves with popular education methods, learner-centered teaching, and hands-on, participatory learning. Check out our post from last month to learn more about the Training of Trainers and Popular Education frameworks.
