The Schenectady Foundation is excited to introduce a transformative initiative poised to make a meaningful difference in our community – the Schenectady County Food Council!
This collaborative effort, supported by numerous organizations and community members, is committed to developing policies and practices to make Schenectady County food-secure. The Council will involve all aspects of the local food system: retailers, consumers, farmers, food production and distribution, and faith and social sector organizations.
𝘼𝙙𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙: The numbers are staggering – Feeding America reports a food insecurity rate of 10.3% in Schenectady County, impacting approximately 16,020 individuals. For children, the rate rises even higher to 15.7%, which is 7.5% above the national average. Our commitment to reversing these statistics is unwavering.
𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮-𝙋𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: The Food Council operates on the belief that those closest to the issue hold the key to effective solutions. We extend an invitation to every Schenectady resident, regardless of background, to join us. Your perspective is invaluable as we collaboratively work towards lasting change.
𝘽𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: Whether you are an individual, an organization, or a local business, there is a role for you within the Food Council. Your contribution – whether through sharing insights, providing support, or lending expertise – will contribute significantly to our mission to enhance food security in Schenectady County.
