Did you know the last week of February is the week when most of the nationโ€™s CSA members sign up for their farm shares? Itโ€™s true! And because of this unusual fact, February 19th to 25th is this yearโ€™s CSA Week!

A CSA (community supported agriculture) is a farm membership system where consumers purchase a share of a farmโ€™s products including veggies, eggs, meat, fruit etc. and receive it over the course of the growing season. Not only is this a great way to enjoy fresh and delicious local food, but being a CSA member is a fantastic way [โ€ฆ]

Itโ€™s 2024! Weโ€™ve been busy planning for the year and the photo below isnโ€™t the only thing we are excited to share from our annual staff retreat earlier this month. Stay tuned for updates on plans weโ€™ve been working on. We appreciate your patience this month, allowing us to keep our heads down and focus on internal activity. More info on what to expect next is coming soon..

We are immensely grateful to our community and board for supporting our largest end-of-year crowdfunding target ever! Focusing on cultivating monthly sustainers is crucial this year, especially since we wonโ€™t have a cohort of students dedicating contributions to our efforts on a consistent basis. Please support our mission and continue to fortify our foundation year-round by signing up to be a monthly sustainer today. Your continued support impacts FSNYC (and NYC) for years to come!

Do you have an idea about how NYC can strengthen agriculture through advocacy or legislation? We want to help you create and run a campaign around it! From carbon sequestration to native species preservation, let us know your idea, and we can help you make it happen. Our farmer advocate, Jocelyn Germany, will support the campaigns. Please e-mail to share ideas, ask questions, and learn more.

Carlene and Annabelle are excited to wish everyone in St. Lawrence County a happy new year! As we enter the depths of the winter months here in the north country we are beginning to prepare for this years growing season. As always there is a great deal of preparation needed for our countiesโ€™ Farmers Markets, along with beginning work on our 2024/2025 Local Food Guide, and preparing for our 2024 Bonus Bucks allocations in the coming months.

We are incredibly appreciative of the support extended to us throughout our community and canโ€™t wait to get back to work supporting our local food system and working to end food insecurity in St. Lawrence County!
