Thanks to Stewartโ€™s Shops Holiday Match Grant, GardenShareโ€™s Bonus Bucks program can reach even more local families in need.

The Stewartโ€™s Holiday Match Grant has distributed nearly $34 million since the programโ€™s inception. This year, GardenShare was a lucky recipient.

Bonus Bucks is a cost-sharing program for income-eligible St. Lawrence County residents. The program assists participants in purchasing either a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share or items at any of the five St. Lawrence County farmers markets.

Hunger Solutions New York and No Kid Hungry New York have created a School Meal Application Toolkit (https://hungersolutionsny.org/federal-nutrition-programs/school-meals/school-meal-application-toolkit/) to help school districts communicate with families about the importance of completing free and reduced-price (F/RP) applications.

In New York State, all schools are required to collect household income information either through a F/RP application or an alternative household income formโ€”even if the school offers free meals to all studentsโ€”to establish economic need for state and local funding.

The strategies and resources included in this toolkit can be used to:

In the omnibus spending bill passed last week, Congress failed to extend USDAโ€™s authority to issue critical child nutrition waivers to ensure childrenโ€™s continued access to healthy meals this summer and next school year. By failing to prioritize these waivers, Congress has jeopardized childrenโ€™s health, wellbeing, and academic recovery, and furthered the already staggering financial and administrative burdens on schools and summer meal sponsors.
Congress canโ€”and mustโ€”fix this, and do so quickly. The next pandemic relief legislation passed by [โ€ฆ]
